A busy week continues for The Bears as they are set to play their second of three games within five days.
Congleton’s immense unbeaten run of form at home came to an end on Tuesday as Padiham defeated Richard Duffy’s side 2-1 at the Cleric Stadium. All good things must come to an end however, and it was certainly a run that any team should be proud of.
Speaking after the game Duffy suggested his side just weren’t at their usual standards on Tuesday:
“I don’t think we deserved a lot from it if i’m being honest, we probably could’ve nicked a point at the end with the [disallowed goal] decision going our way.
“But we didn’t get to grips with the game, we started slow and they deservedly took the lead. They could’ve been a few in front so to get in to half-time one nil down was probably a result for us.”
With league business put on hold until Avro’s visit to Congleton on Saturday, it’s a return to cup football for The Bears as they face a Lower Breck side enduring an equally busy week.
The Anfield side suffered their first defeat of the new year on Tuesday, with a 2-1 loss against Charnock Richard.
Goals from Aaron Johns and Darren Chadwick was enough to secure all three points in October when Congleton faced Lower Breck, in a game Richard Duffy believed his side “didn’t deserve much out of the game.”
Duffy in October: “They [Lower Breck] were the better team from start to finish, somehow we got in at half-time two nil up, giving us something to hang onto really.”
With games coming in quick succession, Duffy was asked on Tuesday how he would manage his players’ minutes to avoid potential injuries ahead of a busy schedule on the horizon.
Duffy: “We will have a chat tomorrow [Wednesday], we will see how injuries but they’ll report in and we will see from there.”
Come on you Bears!
